A few words from Tas, the bride:
How we met: My husband and I fell in love over constellation photography. Once upon a very very long time ago, there was a single girl who was bored in search of a new hobby, and asked this adorable boy on Flickr, “how did you do that!? Would you be able to show me?” …and the rest was history! On our second date, my husband dearest took me in the middle-of-nowhere-Alberta at 2 am, pitch dark and scary, and showed me how some of the most beautiful night skies are captured. It was a revelation for a city girl who grew up in Toronto. He took my breath away and it has been that way ever since!
Proposal: In the spring of 2015 we decided to take a small back pack trip across Europe. The sun was rising over the Eiffel tower in a perfect April morning when he popped the question! I was half sleepy, half dreaming in an Ella Fitzgerald “April in Paris” world! All I remember is the smile he was holding back and his cheeks all rosey and lovely from the cold air. There was not a single soul around the marble terraces, no noises from the roads – It was as though the entire Paris was ours and ours only, even if just for a few minutes!
Initially, we planned for a much more elaborate wedding. Slowly, overtime, in our planning process, we realized that our vision was getting completely lost in keeping with all of the expectations placed on us. We decided on tabula rasa and go back to the start!
The Wedding: We planned our wedding in 10 days! Our dearest friends and families including our parents from out of province were in town for the Heritage day long weekend here in Alberta. We thought, a Sunday brunch wedding would be the most beautiful way to wrap up a trip and a long weekend while sharing our special day with those who love us through and through. We promised each other that we will not sweat all that is inconsequential and only focus on what is the core of our vision. This was the best idea we had throughout this entire process! We didn’t overthink any of the decisions we made, went with what feels right and high fived, and absolutely and completely trusted our wonderful vendors.
And so it began! With the help of Justine’s incredible vision of light and colours, coordination magic from White Copper Weddings, the gorgeous interiors of Charbar, and a little help from our friends and families, we pulled off the most incredible day of our lives! Our vision of an intimate brunch, industrial minimalist feel, morning ceremony filled with natural light followed by great food – it all came together life a dream!
It was a remarkable day where we got to hug and say ‘thank you’ to every single guest personally and spend quality time with them one on one! We were flooded with compliments during the day and afterwards. It absolutely assured our faith in the idea that it’s not always check-marking traditions but creating intimacy and prioritization of moments together as friends and family that truly matter above all.
We were fortunate and humbled to have pulled this through in such a short time span and cannot express our gratitude enough to everyone who was there to love and support us. Our vendors are our superheroes for making this happen so amazingly!
Last but not least, here’s to a lifetime of adventures with my sweetheart whose love opens my eyes to the most beautiful things in life! Xoxo
