A few words from Nicole about her, Joel and their wedding: He’s outgoing, Im reserved. He loves jazz, I love painting. He loves reading, I love painting. He loves the 50s, Im obsessed with the 60s. He speaks Portugese, I speak Spanish. Some may call this complete opposites, but we think we found our complete balance.
We had been friends for years, but when I took a 3 month trip to Greece we both realized our feelings for one another, separately, not telling the other what we had realized. When I returned home, weeks later we began dating. They say distance makes the heart grown fonder, in our case, we think this may be true.
Over the years while we’ve introduced each other to the worlds we had made alone, one thing became clear. We loved each other because we were what we needed in our souls. While he calms me, I remind him to slow down and look at the wildflowers. When I struggle with anxious thoughts, he reminds me of peace and happiness. We are each other’s best friends and that is our simple love story.
For our wedding we wanted the perfect mix of our our cultures, along with glamour and bohemian vibes. Colours of gold, champagne and black were chosen. We mixed this with fresh flowers, delicate baby’s breath, fresh woods, and bird cages surrounded our venue. Everything in our wedding was created with our own hands, hand painted and hand made. Our wedding was truly our wedding. We chose the Executive Royal Hotel which was a perfect location to celebrate with our friends and family. We had our romantic glamourous bohemian night and it was unforgettable.
The groom chose his perfect black tuxedo from J Crew, while the groomsmen donned champagne knitted ties and black suits. Bridesmaids looked stunning wearing dresses from various locations, all in gold and champagne lace. For myself, I visited the Bridal Boutique and Pearl & Dot Boutique, which are the most incredible bridal boutiques in Calgary. With an amazing selection of gowns at the Bridal Boutique, I fell in love with my dream Spanish gown, from Pronovias, sent directly from Barcelona, Spain. I found my dream mantilla veil from Pearl & Dot Boutique. My shimmery gold heels were from Nine West, and my earrings from Kate Spade at Nordstrom. I was blessed to have my late great grandmothers pearls holding my wrist, along with a gold bracelet personally engraved by my mother.
