A few words from Kristine: Where my husband is from in Ireland, they tend to plan pretty epic parties for the day after a wedding. To be honest, we had ours booked before the actual wedding!
Marcus is from a small place called Collorus in County Kerry. He grew up on the water and across the bay, is his local pub. It goes by many names, most commonly Kilmackillogue (thanks to the pier in front of it) and Helen’s Bar, after the owner. It is one of the most beautiful settings you can imagine. The drive in is a bit hairy with narrow windy roads. But when you suddenly clear the brush, you are blessed with a stunning view of the ocean on your left and Helen’s Pub on the right.
We chose Helen’s because it has such an important place in our life. Marcus grew up spending time there and I have spent at least one christmas eve celebrating with friends and family there. It was one of the first places I visited when I first went to Ireland.
Our night was a mix of great food, fantastic live bands that included impromptu performances by guests and a traditional Irish music band that brought back memories for many of the locals who celebrated with us.
Helen and her right hand woman Pauline helped us plan the absolutely perfect day, rain or shine. We feel so blessed that we could share such a special place with all of our friends and family from all over the world.
